Duke went down 15-501 at 16-1 and came back down 16-2 as UNC snapped a 10-game winning streak 61-56.
As is so often the case in Duke-UNC games, one team, in this case UNC, got off to an emotionally charged start at 10-0 before Duke fought back, tying the game 16-16. It was tied again at halftime, 21-21.
UNC built an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter before Duke again rallied and made it much closer down the stretch - just not close enough. Celeste Taylor made it 58-54 with :12 seconds left - her only points of the game - but the Tar Heels held on.
The Blue Devils shot just 33.3 percent both overall and from three point range. Kennedy Brown was held to 0-7. Shayeann Day-Wilson led the way with 24.
With the loss, Duke is now 6-1 and falls into a tie for first place in the ACC with Notre Dame.
