It’s getting harder to keep up with NIL deals now that college athletes can cash in. Everyone is trying to cut a deal with athletes and around the Carolinas and the Southeast, mostly anyway, Bojangles is working with multiple athletes, including Joey Baker and Wendell Moore.
Also on the list: NC State’s Cam Hayes and Breon Pass.
We can certainly see the value in Duke Basketball and NC State too. Both programs are in a heavily marketed major conference that get a lot of attention. but some of the other endorsees seem kind of under the radar. Take Austin Yowell, Belmont soccer, or Evan Bergman, High Point baseball or Ariana Nance, Elon basketball.
In Nance’s case, she’s a relatively anonymous redshirt junior who has barely played at a Colonial Athletic Conference school. We could see a lightly used player at, say Tennessee getting a deal because it’s in a large metro area in a major conference, but Elon?
Obviously they know what they’re doing and we don’t fully understand. We’d just love to know how they came to the decisions they arrived at. There must be factors that we’re not even close to thinking of.
Whatever it is, we’re sure the athletes who got deals are thrilled. Next question: free chicken sandwiches?
