As you might imagine, any presser with Mike Krzyzewski about now is bound to focus on this being his last season.
Only he doesn't want you to use that L word, which, really, is exactly what you’d expect him to say.
Focus on the here and now. It’s of a piece with the plant metaphor, the one where he says if you don’t restrict a plant with a pot you never know how it’ll grow (this relates to his philosophy of not labeling people by positions and allowing them to play to whatever their strengths are instead).
In a way, and not a disrespectful one, we kind of hope Jon Scheyer can do a good K impression so that when he has his first press conference as Duke’s coach, he can whip that out and maybe say “I told my staff not to call this the first season” or something. It’d be a funny, playful tribute and it would make the media laugh, which is a theme we will return to later. Make a mental note of that.
