As you probably know, we like to go to non-Duke sites to get recruiting intel. We think that’s where you’ll find the most reliable sentiment because those sites aren’t going to say Duke is favored until they’re pretty damn sure that’s the case.
In this case, KeepingitHeel.com cites a Rivals recruiting analyst who says Duke is the favorite for big man Mackenzie Mgbako (2023).
Rob Cassidy says this: ‘[Mgbako’s official trip to Duke] seems to have galvanized the bond between the Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernard’s School star and the Blue Devil staff. So while Mgbako is yet to set a decision date, it’s going to require a strong and aggressive move by another school to beat out Scheyer.”
And Zack Pearson adds this: “There is still time in Mgbako’s recruitment...It’s clear Davis and his staff want to land him but it does appear as if they have a big uphill battle to climb.
“To make matters worse, him landing at their arch rival down the road as part of Jon Scheyer’s recruiting class would be a significant blow to the Tar Heels. And that appears to be the likelihood of this recruitment.”
So as always, there are twists and turns in recruiting battles, but for now, Duke seems to be in a good place with Mgbako.
