The Dereck Lively sweepstakes will come to a conclusion Monday evening and the general consensus is that Duke leads Kentucky.
But we shouldn’t have to tell you that consensus means nothing. The only thing that matters is what Lively decides and, as most kids have learned today, he’s keeping his cards close to the jersey.
So don’t get too excited before he announces, but here are two tidbits worth keeping in mind. Make of them what you will.
Penn State has a realistic shot at Lively - his mom works there - and they took a commitment from Kebba Nije, a 4-star center from Indiana. Would he have committed if he thought Lively would be in front of him? We can’t say but it’s something to think about.
And secondly, John Calipari is spending Monday visiting Adem Bona. We wouldn’t necessarily call him a backup plan to Lively because Bona is pretty good too, and we’re sure he’d take both, but it’s interesting that he plans to visit Monday.
Again, make of it what you will. Announcement time is 6:00.
