JPN: United States v France Men’s Basketball - Olympics: Day 2
SAITAMA, JAPAN - JULY 25: Rudy Gobert #27 of Team France drives past Kevin Durant #7 of Team United States during the first half of the Men’s Preliminary Round Group B game on day two of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Saitama Super Arena on July 25, 2021 in Saitama, Japan.

One of the worst things about this Olympics is that the basketball stuff got shunted over to Peacock where you’re expected to pay for it.

Well a lot of people clearly just weren’t going to do it as Twitter, Reddit and other sources show, and whatever NBC expected to get out of it, they probably haven’t.

So it’s nice to see that the gold medal game is on NBC and NBCOlympics.com. There is a catch, naturally: you have to have a cable subscription. Presumably you can see NBC on satellite as well though given how things have been so far we wouldn’t promise you that. But we expect and hope so.

The game tips off at 10:30 pm and the US, as you might guess, should be pretty motivated by the loss to France in the opening game of the Olympics tournament. The worst part of that was how poorly the US played at the close. It was a basketball nightmare. They probably all woke up to clang clang clang in their dreams and their alarm clocks might have sounded like that too.

So tonight, win or lose, we think Team USA is going to play very hard. If the French can play better again, they’ll be deserving champions.
