Unfortunately we live in an unhappy time, so reliably unpleasant on all sides that one might be tempted to call it the Age of Grievance.
We’re blessed to live in a country where you are allowed to “petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” It was considered so important that the Founders put it in the 1st Amendment.
Most of us accept that protest isn’t just a right but frequently a call to our better selves, so all of us at times hear stuff we don’t like and just live with it.
Still, the constant unhappiness gets old and sometimes it’s just nice to think that somewhere, somebody has found something to be happy about.
Which brings us to American wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock.
Competing at 68 kg, just a shade under 150 lbs, Mensah-Stock won gold and her sheer happiness, her overwhelming, unbridled joy after winning and her exuberant embrace of her country, is going to make a lot of people feel good.
Check this video out if you haven’t seen it. It’s a wonderful representation of both the Olympic and American spirit.
