At Duke, Daniel Jones established pretty quickly that he was a good quarterback but also a gutty player and a leader.

So Duke folk weren’t too surprised that in first training camp, his Giants teammates immediately began to rave about the rookie quarterback.

He’s a quality teammate to say the least and the Giants really seem to respect him.

Of course there’s always room to grow and that includes respect and after what happened Tuesday, it’s going to be higher - even if it wasn’t the smartest thing in the world to do.

The Giants had a bit of a conflict in training camp when a defender decked running back Corey Clement. One thing led to another and pretty soon there was a full-tilt brawl between O and D - and Jones was in the middle of it trying to calm guys down.

Or more precisely, as it turned out, at the bottom of it.

The Giants were probably not thrilled to see their quarterback under a great big angry dog pile but his teammates were impressed.

Afterwards, Clement said this: “Goll-lee. I love it. At the same time, we don’t want to get our quarterback hurt. Pretty sure Daniel knows that as well. I hope he thinks twice before jumping back in there again.”

When asked if this added to the respect Jones has earned with his teammates, Clement said “[y]eah, shit, that’s what you want to see.’’
