You can point to a lot of basketball players as being incredible: Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry to name a few.

But you could make the argument that the most extraordinary player ever, and the one that we’ll never see the likes of again, is Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues.

Watching him turn his 5-3 height to his advantage was just astounding. You can find videos of him abusing Michael Jordan, blocking Patrick Ewing’s shot and in the air too) and various other stunts are are still amazing to watch.

The odds against him were huge but his spirit was even bigger. No one has ever done what he did and the odds of anyone doing it again are, well, pretty small. The odds of seeing a second Wilt are much higher than seeing another Muggsy.

This video is from the ACC Digital Network and it focuses mostly on Bogues’s early years with some surprises, like him getting shot when he was five and former Deac Billy Packer saying he originally thought he was a wasted scholarship.

He’s not in the Hall of Fame yet but should be. For anyone who wants a model in how to overcome challenges, you could do a whole lot worse than Bogues.
