Even today, Wilt Chamberlain looms like a colossus over the sport of basketball. You've probably read about the 100 point game, getting 55 rebounds in a single game, the battles with Bill Russell, maybe matching Jim Brown stride for stride on a sidewalk.
He was an otherworldly talent.
In this clip from the ‘90s, he comes out on the court with New York Knick Patrick Ewing and a young Shaquille O’Neal of the Orlando Magic and even then, at that age, looms over them both.
He was much taller than Ewing and bigger than O’Neal.
Keep in mind that Ewing was listed at 7-1, 240, O’Neal at 7-1, 325 (not in this video though) while Chamberlain was listed at 7-1 and 275.
It was a running mystery as to just how tall Chamberlain was. At one point he listed himself at 7-1 - and 1/16th, which was generally seen as a bit of a joke on his part.
Considering that here he is older, around 60, and older people generally lose a bit of height as life goes on, and you wonder what it actually was in his prime.
