Former Wake Forest head coach and more recently Louisville assistant Dino Gaudio pleaded guilty to extortion in June and is expected to get a year of probation and a fine.
As you may recall, Gaudio threatened to expose NCAA violations in Chris Mack’s Cardinal program unless he was paid.
So while he’ll have a record he’s not going to jail. Now though he may be settling some scores.
There are some some revelations in some new court documents to process. Gaudio had previously alleged some relatively minor NCAA violations but given Louisville’s recent NCAA issues, there is no such thing as minor right now. A Level II violation could cause Mack his job.
Gaudio also accused Mack of shifting blame for Louisville’s struggles during the Covid season to his assistants, of ripping his players and threatening to yank scholarships. Some of it we’ve heard before but it’s still not a good look.
Eric Crawford has a really good take on this, asking what we don’t know. His ultimate conclusion is that he thinks if Mack had to do it again, he probably wouldn't have hit record.
