Probably the last thing Nike wanted to see was a shoe problem with the name Zion Williamson attached to it.
Well that’s what they got although not the glaring spotlight that Williamson brings.
In this case, it’s former Demon Deacon Chaundee Brown.
Brown transferred to Michigan and finished up well enough to get pro interest - he’s under contract to the Lakers but probably a 2-way or a summer league deal (the Lakers haven’t said what got).
Anyway, playing in Las Vegas, Brown blew out his Zions.
When Zion did it, it happened because no designer anticipated someone with his weight (285) and power putting that much stress on a pair of shoes. Nike supposedly took care of that and Williamson of course signed with Nike and is a major endorser.
But Brown? He’s 6-5 and relatively slender at 215. How did that happen?
The only good news for Nike is that he’s a relatively minor figure as of now. If he had been more visible, it would be a huge deal rather than something that’s basically amusing.
Well, maybe not for Nike or Williamson but for the rest of us certainly.
