This article takes a look at several major recruiting battles, including three that feature Duke: Dariq Whitehead, Dereck Lively and Anthony Black.

The most optimism here is for Whitehead: “Ever since Dariq Whitehead finished up an official visit to Duke, there has been a lot of buzz that he’ll ultimately be the first big time player to commit to coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer.”

As for Lively, “has looked to be tracking towards a blue blood commitment, but it is important to note that his mother not only played for but currently works for Penn State.”

Family is a tough hurdle but that can go both ways. Some kids just would like to go to school away from home. Who knows?

Finally, about Black: “His summer team...is as competitive as any in the country but [it’s] an independent team [not] on a shoe circuit...Gonzaga and Duke have really stepped it up...can they or anybody else pull him out of his home state?”
