Jon Scheyer has his first recruit as Duke’s future head coach and it’s an impressive one: Kyle Filipowski has committed to Duke.

Filipowski is seen as a very versatile big man who can handle the ball, shoot threes and pass very well.

Here’s what he said to ESPN about choosing Duke: “At the end of the day, they just checked all of the boxes for me. They are a national-level team, my academics were very important to me, and I had a good feel for the environment and campus. Just being around that type of environment and having those relationships, I really feel like when I’m done with my time at Duke I’ll be the best version of myself, both on and off the court. I can just envision myself growing there with the people I’m surrounding myself with.”

It’s a great get. Filipowski has been steadily rising in the class of 2022 and may be Top Ten before it’s over, possibly higher.

And this weekend might bring more good news as Dariq Whitehead is set to make his announcement on Sunday. No guarantees that it will be Duke obviously but if it is, Scheyer is off to a great start as is Duke’s transition from Coach K.

Still unknown: where his twin brother Matthew will go. He’s less highly regarded but could also turn out.
