We can certainly understand that a lot of people were disappointed by Simon Biles’ decision to pull out of Olympic competitions. We were too. She was, after all, one of the premier attractions of these games, and a great source of pride for American fans. She’s a revolutionary athlete who has pushed the boundaries of her sport to places no one ever dreamed they could go.
But some of the reactions have just been over the top.
People have just savaged the woman and some of the reactions you just have to wonder about. What’s the point of calling her names and trashing her?
There’s a lot more that we don't know than we do, but just as decent people - if we can still reach that standard - why go there?
First, whatever happened, like Coach K said about LeBron James when he opted out of the Olympics after a tremendous run, “he served.”
She’s served. She’s already done more for her sport, and her country, than most people could dream of. If she’s struggling, for whatever reason, whether you agree or disagree, just be decent. Nothing good is going to come from ripping and slamming her.
Her critics should take a break and go binge Ted Lasso.
