As you guys know, Duke fans got a sense of women’s coach Kara Lawson last season, but nothing more: the season was canceled after five games due to Covid.

Lawson is off to Tokyo to (hopefully) coach in 3x3 basketball.

Perhaps getting in the spirit, some Duke women slipped over into Raleigh to play some 3x3 basketball themselves.

The four Blue Devils who went were Meilia Goodchild, Vanessa de Jesus, Nyah Green and Lee Volker.

“Just wanted to put a team together and start building a culture around 3×3 basketball and get it going, Goodchild told Sports Grind Entertainment. “It was fun for us four to get together. I know for us, we’ve just been wanting to get out here and play and have this opportunity to compete together,” de Jesus said. “It was really great.”

And Green promised that “[w]e’re going to keep playing fast,” Green said, expanding on the theme. “Keep playing up-tempo. Just keep looking for each other, keep playing together.”

Let’s hope that lasts for the foreseeable future.
