A Cool Coach K Story

This one is small but sweet

Here’s a small but telling Coach K story from David Thompson of the Fayetteville Observer, recounting how a Starbucks barista near Duke told him that Coach K frequents his shop but at first, he wasn't sure it was him.

So he asked what he did at Duke.

“I teach basketball.”

Great answer.

And you have to think that when you’re on TV all the time, when you’re locally and internationally famous, or infamous depending on the shade of blue you prefer (Coach K said once that other than basketball, he has never been to Chapel Hill, not once. And that’s probably smart), that once in awhile it must be nice to be somewhat anonymous.

Thompson drew his own conclusions from the conversation and, later that day, the press conference to introduce Jon Scheyer as Krzyzewski’s successor. The more we think about it all, the more we realize that this appears to be extraordinarily well-planned and managed.
