Boston Coaching Search: Will It Affect Duke?

As you probably noticed, after Brad Stevens moved to the front former Celtic Brian Scalabrine said he thought that Duke’s Kara Lawson would replace him.

While that can’t be ruled out, and we’re all reading tea leaves at this point, what we’re seeing suggests that, for whatever reason, she may not be a top-tier candidate at the moment.

The names mentioned for interviews right now are Chauncey Billups, Ime Udoka, Jamahl Mosley, Darvin Ham, and Charles Lee.

Stevens has apparently also interviewed his own assistants Jerome Allen, Jay Larranaga, Scott Morrison, and Joe Mazzulla.

Two of those names may ring a bell. Young Larranaga is the son of Miami Hurricanes coach Jim Larranaga, while Joe Mazzulla had two games against Duke while he was a West Virginia Mountaineer. In the first, West Virginia pushed Duke around but in the second, Duke returned the favor in the 2010 Final Four before surviving Stevens and Butler in the title game.

If Ham also rings a bell, it might be the time he rung UNC’s.
