Duke Recruiting: A Surprising Rumor

Well this would be an interesting surprise

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Maryland at Connecticut

We said recently that while Duke’s roster seemed done that it was also a bit thin and it wouldn’t surprise us if one more player was added late.

We didn't see this rumor coming though.

Maryland guard Darryl Morsell has declared for the NBA draft and is apparently considering returning to college, but not necessarily at College Park.

Among the schools mentioned: Marquette, Providence, Arkansas and Duke.

There’s no guarantee of anything here obviously. The other schools are formidable rivals and have a lot to offer as well.

But we don’t think any of them have the chance that Duke does for a championship run. The Blue Devils have tremendous talent for next year and an experienced senior guard, who is also an outstanding defender, would be a great addition.

It would also add another versatile player, along with Wendell Moore, AJ Griffin and Joey Baker to Duke’s core.

And it would mean when Duke needed intense defense, it could put out various lineups with Morsell, Moore, Griffin, Jaylen Brakes, Mark Williams, Theo John and Jeremy Roach, who we expect to be much better.

Don’t hold your breath on this one but there would be a fun bonus: it would drive Maryland fans insane.
