The News & Observer is back with more on Adidas and guys who went to Duke, focusing on Zion Williamson and family, Frank Jackson and, to a lesser extent, Matthew Hurt. Here are some key passages:
On paying for plane tickets: “It would just depend on the event that we were running as to whether or not we were providing transportation for the family or not,” [Adidas rep ] Daniel Cutler said. “It could be specifically in reference to, I believe, Adidas Nations or a Prip [sic], which we would have included all parents on.”
Frank Jackson is alleged to have asked for a plane tickets home and for his girlfriend to visit him in Durham: “Can Adidas pay for my flight…to Utah for fall break?”
Cutler: “We can’t but it can magically appear.”
Also “In a Nov. 28, 2016 text exchange, Jackson asked Cutler, “‘You think you can fly someone out to Duke? Ha ha. If not, no worries at all.’
This would have been a violation, but Duke was not involved in this and would have no reason to be since Duke is a Nike school and doesn’t do business with Adidas.
Finally, Matthew Hurt’s name is briefly mentioned as his father was trying to get an offer from Kansas.
Like the last report, this one seems more like the N&O trying to sell newspapers - admittedly not easy these days - than actually finding a significant story.
