Most of our readers will remember that Duke’s Wendell Moore was on a powerhouse team in high school, Concord’s Cox Mill. He won two state championships there.
Some will also recall that UNC’s Leaky Black was a teammate there but there was another guy there Duke fans should remember or at least be aware of: Caleb Stone-Carrawell.
Yes, the son of Duke great and all-time interview champ Chris Carrawell was on that team.
He has played for UNC-Charlotte for the last couple of years but like so many, he took advantage of immediate transfer to explore his options and he’s made his decision.
He’ll be playing for Uncle Nate (James) at Austin Peay.
We’re just kidding about the Uncle Nate part but it sounded good and he’ll certainly be in good hands there.
For his part, James seems excited about his new player. Note the word “finally” here;
“I’m very excited to finally coach Caleb. He’s an extremely versatile player, capable of playing and guarding 1-through-4 on the floor. At 6-7 with ball handling skills, his play-making ability will create offensive opportunities for his teammates.
“Caleb is a fantastic culture kid with high character and tons of talent. He will make a positive impact on and off the floor. Being a coaches kid, he will most certainly uphold the standard of excellence of our basketball program and Austin Peay State University. I know Caleb to be a winner and great piece to add to our program.”
By the way, James has assembled his first staff. They are Mike Cotton, Brett Carey and Jason Harris.
We believe Cotton comes over from Kennessaw State and was previously at NCCU. Carey looks like he’s been at Indiana State. If we have the right guy, Harris appears to have been on the women’s staff at NCCU.
Based on at least three of these four early moves, James puts a lot of of emphasis on relationships.
Note to Nate: tell your people to update the web page: you’re not listed yet! Not a great look.
