YouTube Gold: A Rising Star, A Brilliant Young Passer

LaMelo Ball is going to pack people in the stands. When they can attend, anyway.

We’ve talked before about how we think passing is the best part of basketball because a great passer can seem magical. He sees things the other nine guys on the court simply can’t. The court might seem full and stifled and all of a sudden he finds something previously unimagined.

It’s like a prodigy who keeps digging up new levels on a video game only it’s real.

People who saw Larry Bird and Magic Johnson duel can tell you about it and there have been a few others.

We appear to have a new one now too: Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball.

We should say we thought he might be a flop and here’s why: his dad kept moving him around, from high school to Europe to, finally, Australia.

Despite that instability, Ball is thriving in Charlotte. And as you look at this highlight reel, consider this: none of his teammates look even remotely surprised.

They have total confidence he’ll get them the ball.
