Normally, a game between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers would be a huge deal. First, it would have Zion Williamson vs. LeBron James, the young ascendant vs. the old King who is not quite ready to let him rise, and second, the trade which sent Anthony Davis to L.A. and Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart (and draft picks) to the Pelicans and some bones to pick with the Lakers.
Unfortunately for the emerging rivalry, Davis and James are both out with injuries, so this became a relatively easy win for the Pelicans, who triumphed 128-111 and both Williamson and Ingram had big games.
Ingram had 36 points on 14-21 from the floor while Williamson had 27 on 9-13 and also 9-10 from the line.
His improvement there is a vastly underappreciated aspect of his game: there will be no Haq-a-Shaq treatment for Williamson.
Here are some highlights from that game and here are Williamson’s normal array of dunks, drives, and overall smart plays.
