Armando Bacot and Day’Ron Sharpe are in a bit of hot water as they were caught on video celebrating after the Duke game sans mask and social distancing.
While we understand why this is a big deal - it screws up contact tracing and Covid, as we’ve seen, is no joke - like any pandemic or crisis it sooner or later encounters human nature. And when you’re dealing with 18 and 19 year olds, asking them not to celebrate after a major accomplishment, especially after they’ve been told not to socialize for months, well...you can ask it, but you also shouldn’t be surprised if they do something stupid. How many kids their age never do anything stupid?
It’s a good example for the rest of the conference to learn from but we’re reasonably certain that a number of ACC athletes have quietly spent time socializing in one way or another.
Again, we’re not endorsing it, just acknowledging the reality of human nature. You can’t keep people, much less young people, cooped up indefinitely.
So of course the UNC-Miami game Monday night was canceled which moves us on to Tuesday’s ACC Action where, aside from Duke-Notre Dame, we now have a grand total of one game: swooning Syracuse at NC State (FSU and Virginia Tech are postponed).
State and Syracuse played up there on the 31st - just nine days ago - and Syracuse won 76-73.
State was playing its first game without Devon Daniels and DJ Funderburk also sat out due to a suspension.
Prior to that game, the ‘Cuse lost to Virginia 81-58 and after the State game lost to Clemson 78-61.
Meanwhile, State seems to be figuring out the post-Daniels world. So we’ll take the Pack here.
