In a surprising twist, Au’Diese Toney, who has carved out a nice niche with Pitt, has left the team, effective immediately.
His departure comes a day after Xavier Johnson left and the statement from coach Jeff Capel is similar to the one he made about Johnson on Wednesday: “We have come to the mutual agreement that Au’Diese will be leaving the Pitt Men’s Basketball program effective immediately. We appreciate his efforts the past three seasons in our program and wish him well as he looks to continue to grow on and off the court.”
We really don’t know but it sounds like either Capel is cleaning house or there are some serious issues within the program. It also means that his first recruiting class is entirely gone. Trey McGowens left last year and Johnson and Toney finished the wipeout Wednesday and Thursday.
