We’ve enjoyed linking to Larry Bird videos and stories because they’re just amazing and funny. The guy could literally do whatever he wanted on a court and at times his biggest challenge was to not be bored. He had games where he would shoot left handed, games where he would make bets with people on the other bench.
There were other times when he would tell guys exactly what he was going to do and then did it. No one could stop him.
There are some really funny lines on this video compilation of Bird stories. In his famous game against the Hawks, he even called on shot before he took it: “off the glass and into the trainer!” And that’s what happened.
He burned Craig Ehlo once and then asked him “is your mom watching?”
And in the 1988 Three Point contest at the All Star game, he said walked in the locker room and said “who’s playing for second place?”
As great as he was as a basketball player, he may have been better at talking trash with only Michael Jordan a serious rival in that regard.
In fact, he was so good at irritating people, Dominique Wilkins said that in 13 years, he never once shook his hand.
