Over at Zagsblog.com, there’s a post up about Duke’s recruitment of Patrick Baldwin and how Jalen Johnson’s departure might affect his decision.

There is a lot of supposition in it.

While the two are clearly close, we have no idea what they might talk about or, for that matter, what Baldwin might think.

We also have no idea what his father might advise him to do. As we discussed recently, when Jeff Capel II was at Old Dominion, he told his son that UNC offered him a better path in basketball than ODU ever could.

He made people at Old Dominion mad, but he was right.

We really can’t know what the family discussion is. We might also add that one thing that the Baldwins have that most families don’t is a coach’s perspective: what did (o does)the elder Baldwin think of Johnson?

There are so many potential variables here that most of us can’t possibly know and it’s not up to us anyway. The main thing for the Baldwins is to find the best fit for Patrick. No one doubts that he’d thrive at Duke, but if they decide he’s better off with his dad’s program, then we’re sure that’s the right decision for them.
