Highly sought after recruit Mark Mitchell said he was “joining the Brotherhood” during a Friday afternoon announcement ceremony.
Mitchell chose Duke over Missouri and UCLA.
With his family around him, Mitchell said that he chose Duke largely because of the relationship he had developed with incoming Duke coach Jon Scheyer.
Scheyer had already put together the nation’s top recruiting class even before he has coach a game. Mitchell joins Derek Lively, Kyle Filipowski, Dariq Whitehead and Jaden Schutt. Mitchell, Lively, Filipowski and Whitehead are all now seen as Top Ten recruits or, at a minimum, Top 20. And we think Schutt is vastly underrated.
We can’t know until how Scheyer will do until he actually takes the reins but he’s secured immense talent to work with. This class may go down as one of Duke’s best and considering how the Blue Devils have recruited for the last decade or so, that’s saying.
And bonus schadenfruede comes from watching Kentucky fans gnash their teeth over Duke’s continued success on the recruiting trail.
