Anyone could put together a list of the greatest NCAA games of all time. A lot of of older ACC fans would vote for the NC State-Maryland game in the 1974 ACC Tournament Finals. A lot of Duke fans might pick the Duke-Kentucky game in 1992 although we’d make an argument for Duke-UNLV 1991 instead because UNLV was thought to be unbeatable (spoiler: they weren’t).
In a different way we could argue for UMBC’s win over Virginia when the Retriever's were a #16 seed.
We’d be hard-pressed to not put a more recent game on this list though and you might agree with us that last year’s classic between UCLA and Gonzaga was spine-tinglingly great.
Gonzaga, remember, was undefeated and expected to win the national championship.
UCLA did everything they could to derail that though and it took a dramatic, deep game-winner by Jalen Suggs in overtime to break a tie and give the Zags a 93-90 win.
On the following Monday of course, Baylor would dismantle Gonzaga, denying Mark Few the validation of a national championship.
Gonzaga and UCLA will put on a rematch in 19 days in Las Vegas. Three days later they’ll play Duke, also in Vegas.
