A Look At Virginia Tech’s Prospects This Season

The Hokies have a chance to be really good

Wofford v Kentucky
JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - MARCH 23: Head coach Mike Young of the Wofford Terriers watches play as they take on the Kentucky Wildcats during the first half of the game in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at Vystar Memorial Arena on March 23, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida.

David Teel is one of the best ACC area writers. Now with the Richmond paper, Teel takes a good look at Virginia Tech here and sees a team that’s going to be good and one that is already confident.

And they have some real strengths. First, Keve Aluma is one of the ACC’s best big men, second, Mike Young has an experienced and deep team and third, the Hokies have Young, who has justified the high expectations his peers have for him (his fellow coaches think he’s superb).

Could Virginia Tech win the national championship?

Young is trying to calm that sort of talk down but as a coach you know he loves the confidence. And even he admits the Hokies should be pretty good.

Losing Tyrece Radford and Jalen Cone will hurt but Hunter Cattoor, Justyn Mutts, Nahiem Alleyne will help. And remember Storm Murphy? We’re pretty sure UNC fans do.

Buzz Williams got Virginia Tech to the point where they were a reliable post-season team. Young has continued that. Now we’ll see if he can make them a legitimate threat.
