Ja Morant’s rise has been nothing short of incredible.
The native of Dalzell, South Carolina, population 2,260, was lightly recruited and ended up at Murray State.
By the time he was a sophomore he was a first-team All-American and entered the NBA Draft, going #2 to the Memphis Grizzlies.
He was discovered by Murray State when he was playing in a 3-on-3 game during a summer camp.
He got offers from schools like Duquesne, Maryland Eastern Shore, South Carolina State, and Wofford. It’s fascinating to wonder what Mike Young, who has since left Wofford for Virginia Tech, would have done with him.
He’s been sensational in the NBA, winning Rookie of the Year in his first year, and building a collection of highlights that few players can hope to compete with.
Take the game against the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday night. Morant finished with 40 points and 10 assists and one of those baskets was this one. Make sure to watch the whole thing because it’s kind of hard to understand if you don’t slow it down.
