Shavlik Randolph Update!

His path shows how hard it is to keep a good man down.

As far as we can tell, former Blue Devil Shavlik Randolph has lived an admirable life to date but he has had some bad luck.

At Raleigh’s Broughton High, at Duke and as a professional athlete, Randolph has dealt with some really serious injuries and health issues which he details here.

Keep in mind this was a guy who was widely expected to be, at a minimum, a solid NBA player. He got there as a marginal player, but he had to overcome a lot just to do that.

He’s been playing in China and doing well there, but in 2019 his little brother Dexter was visiting and Shavlik came home to find him dead in his apartment. That must have been unspeakably devastating. He tried to play the next night but ultimately called it a season.

Who can blame him?

He’s grown quite a bit from all of this and is close to getting his degree in religion from Duke. It’s good to get an update and we hope he keeps moving forward as he clearly has done even under very difficult circumstances.

Consider the character you have to have to have dealt with the sorts of injuries he had and to still keep at it. It’s really impressive.
