That Time Zion Williamson Blocked A Shot On Good Friend RJ Barrett

At Duke, not in the NBA

When they were at Duke, Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett had tremendous chemistry and, obviously, became great friends.

And as you may remember, Williamson said that while Tre Jones was driving the bus, it was RJ’s team.

This was said by a guy who was secure enough to let Barrett be the top dog, or at least to think that he was.

Because Barrett has an Alpha mindset. So does Williamson, but he’s smart enough to realize that you can’t have two Alphas in the lineup.

On the other hand, though, Williamson clearly does not like to be embarrassed or upstaged. So when Barrett dunked on him rather emphatically during a preseason Duke scrimmage, Williamson didn’t react in a big way on that play.

But soon enough, Barrett came downcourt again and when he drove the lane, Williamson swooped in from behind and sent his shot deep into the crowd.

Then they high-fived each other repeatedly.

They’re reportedly still great friends and Williamson was willing to defer to Barrett in many ways, but clearly, not in all.
