The Duke Chronicle has a rundown on Jon Scheyer’s first recruiting class. And for a guy who has no head coaching experience, Scheyer is knocking it out of the park as a recruiter.
In fairness, he’s got plenty of experience as a recruiter and he’s long since shown that he’s very, very good in that role.
Remember when Duke fans were concerned that Jeff Capel would take the recruiting magic with him when he left for Pitt?
Yeah not so much. When he was in Durham Capel was selling Duke Basketball and that’s a lot easier than selling Pitt.
And of course Scheyer is also selling himself and everyone who has been around him who’s been asked says that he’s clearly a rising star.
Whatever it is, look who’s responded just for next season:
- Kyle Filipowski
- Dariq Whitehead
- Jaden Schutt
- Derek Lively
The article also leaves open the possibility of Mark Mitchell committing which would be nice and of course he has a commitment from junior Caleb Foster.
It doesn’t get into Matas Buzelis at all but that’s a name you should really keep an eye on because you don’t see 6-10 guys too often who can play point guard if asked. He’s one of the more intriguing players to come along in some time. Wherever he goes, he’s going to be - no pun intended - a big deal.
