Zion Williamson Update - Uncertain For Opening Night But Not For His Fourth-Year Extension

Barring a stunning trade, the rising star will be in New Orleans at least through next year - and he says longer.

In a bit of Brotherhood news, Zion Williamson, who suffered an off-season foot injury while training, is uncertain for the New Orleans Pelican’s opener on October 20th vs. the Philadelphia 76ers who, for their part, may or may not have Ben Simmons.

It’s probably a good thing that they haven't ruled him out yet but it seems unlikely.

In other Zion news, New Orleans has exercised its fourth-year option on Williamson. There wasn't much question that they would but there have been persistent rumors that he wanted out of New Orleans.

He disputed that recently, saying he did want to stay. In addition to his clear statement on that, his mother, who has been working on an historical house she now owns and clashing with the historical commission, won permission to do a series of renovations. It’s going to be an expensive and time-consuming endeavor and it’s hard to imagine that she’d undertake a serious effort like that if her son was planning on moving before too long.

Of course the corollary to that is there’s no guarantee that his mother and stepfather have to live in the same city as Williamson. Still, it’s a tight-knit family and it’s hard to see them investing heavily in a property if Williamson was going to be on the move soon.
