Basketball season draws ever closer and since it’s the (don’t-stay-that-word) of Coach K’s illustrious career, it’s going to be a big deal for Duke and Duke fans.
The first step is practice which is well under way.
The second step is the ACC’s traditional media day, aka Operation ACC Tipoff, which takes place on Tuesday.
David Thompson and Chapel Fowler (with a name like that we hope he’s covering UNC) break it down into five questions:
- Can the ACC bounce back?
- Coach K’s you-know-what
- A new era in Chapel Fowl (see?)
- Impact from the transfer portal
- ACC women’s action returns
- Las Vegas odds on the next Louisville scandal favor escorts again but this time with various worrisime implements imported from Tijuana and Amsterdam respectively.
Okay, we made the last one up.
We do expect the ACC to bounce back. It’s impossible to say it was down without mentioning the pandemic. Duke was shut out of the post-season when it seemed to be coming together. Virginia went into the tournament and we all knew the Cavs were going down because they had too many less-than-healthy players. Again, everyone gets a pass.
We’ll talk about the K stuff more later but Hubert Davis taking over? It’s interesting and Davis seems to have some idea of what to fix and how to do it. Whether he can or not is different but he at least understands the issues.
Transfer portal is old news at this point but still a big deal. Getting to know the free agents will be key.
Finally, we’ll get the real debut of Kara Lawson’s Duke program and who’s not excited about that? It should be fun!
We’ll have more tomorrow on the whole shebang.
