No matter what you think of Rick Pitino’s various personal and professional issues everyone can agree on this: between the lines, the guy is an all-time great.

Not only that, his teams have always played with immense energy and can strike in nothing flat.

Since parting ways with Louisville, Pitino coached overseas, working with the Greek National Team, before returning to NCAA basketball with the Iona Gaels.

Unfortunately, things haven’t gone smoothly, not that none of it is his fault.

Hall-of-Famer Pitino returned as the pandemic gripped the world, and it has hit his new program at Iona especially hard.

Pitino was diagnosed with the virus between vaccine shots #1 and #2 and he’s not the only one. He tells CBSSports.com that he doesn’t have enough guys currently to run a practice and has only been able to play eight games. The Gaels haven’t played in a month.

The last several years of Pitino’s career have been tough to say the least. Here’s hoping he can get his career back on track soon.
