Well here’s some interesting news: Duke legend Gene Banks has a new job: he’s the AD at Gaston College and he’s the first new AD there in 50 years.

Great continuity?

Not exactly.

Gaston hasn’t had an athletics program in 50 years. However, they do have one very notable alum: Leonard Hamilton spent two years there before transferring to a four-year school, UT-Martin.

Banks seems effusive about the hire, saying this: “I am joining Gaston College to strive to achieve athletics excellence. This is a truly remarkable opportunity to design a program from scratch and combine top-notch athletics with a unique community partnership approach.”

“I can’t wait! – we want to bring more fun and excitement to Gaston College than they have ever had!”

One of his first hires is basketball coach Dickey Nutt, who has been head coach at Arkansas State and Southeast Missouri State. He was also an assistant to Hamilton at Florida State and Hamilton, according to the link above, has been advising his alma mater on how to restore athletics.
