As he toys with the Sacramento Kings

When former Blue Devil Zion Williamson is at his best it’s like watching someone in a video game. You know it’s not normal, it’s slightly superhuman, but there he goes, again and again.

So it was as he ate the Sacramento Kings alive Sunday night.

You should always keep in mind that while he typically looks vastly superior to the other guys on the court, that all of these guys are elite athletes. Kyle Guy is probably the least athletic guy on the Kings but even he is a tremendously gifted athlete.

So when you see Williamson blow by fellow former Blue Devil Marvin Bagley, who remember dazzled at Duke with his own remarkable athleticism, keep that in mind. When he knocks 6-10 Richaun Holmes from the free throw circle into the stanchion like he was swatting a fly out of his way, remember that Holmes is a large, powerful man himself. When Glenn Robinson III takes the ball away and falls down, Williamson just whirls around him, takes it back and scores.

And when he fakes 6-9 Chimezie Metu out of his shoes and then dunks on him in a way that had one announcer calling it a death on the court, well, Metu is a pretty good athlete too.

These are just amazing highlights. Duke fans have seen stuff like this before of course. That doesn’t mean it’s not breathtaking. It’s like listening to Biréli Lagrène do things that you understand are musical but that go to somewhere most musicians could never go. You wonder how and what it would be like, but that’s as close as you can get to what he does.

Watching Williamson play never gets old. We really, really hope he is on the next Olympic team.
