One of the most remarkable streaks in college sports came to an end in Chapel Hill this past January when Clemson beat UNC 79-76.
True it had to go to overtime, but they still claimed the win and it was the first win in 59 trips to Chapel Hill.
We’re not sure when Clemson’s first trip to Chapel Hill was but the Tigers started playing basketball in 1911 and both teams were in the Southern Conference. Because of the size of the conference - up to 27 teams at its peak - home-and-homes were not possible on an annual basis.
Still, 0-59, no matter how many years it’s spread out over, is insane.
So we thought we’d like to pay homage to Clemson’s epic win and remind everyone that even at the end, UNC - 8-8 at this point but heading to 14-19 overall - had a chance to keep the streak.
They just couldn’t.
