We haven’t had a chance to get to this but there were a couple of interesting ACC commitments this week, both 6-5 and both international.
First, Virginia got a commitment from Kiwi guard Taine Murray. We don’t know a lot about him but he looks pretty good from what we can see here. And at this point it should go without saying that Tony Bennett knows exactly who will work in his system and that he has a knack for finding those guys.
So we expect Murray will be a regular pain in the down under.
Obviously we’re all still getting used to Steve Forbes at Wake Forest and we don’t know much about him yet other than by reputation and his generally entertaining persona.
He does appear to have turned recruiting up a notch though, at least energy wise if nothing else. He has commitments from 6-4 Robert McCray, 6-3 Carter Whitt and now 6-5 Cameron Hildreth.
The intriguing part?
He’s British. And a guard.
British big men pop up periodically but guards? That’s pretty rare.
Presumably these guys will give Forbes what he wants in the backcourt but no matter how you look at it, he’s out rounding up players and showing a lot more energy than we’re used to seeing at Wake Forest. And that’s good for the entire conference.
