Okay, that’s a bit of a hustle. Obviously Bobby Hurley never played for Indiana or Bob Knight.
However, he did wear an Indiana uniform and played for Knight - on film.
Hurley was one of the real college basketball players recruited to play ball in the movie Blue Chips and it’s really strange to see him in red.
He’s in the first basketball sequence though (as opposed to the first bench shots) and he features throughout this clip, including in one scene where he falls down which we think may have been unscripted.
This clip makes something quite clear. While Hurley is a taller than average man, by basketball standards, he is positively small and verges on frail.
When you see this clip, and you see guys like Shaq looming, it’s hard not to wonder just how he did it, how he had the nerve to play among such giants.
