Duke South, aka the New Orleans Pelicans, lost its shot at the playoffs when they lost to San Antonio Sunday, 122-113.
That ends JJ Redick’s personal streak of always making the playoffs and means that Zion Williamson’s up-and-down rookie year has just two games left.
Williamson scored 23 in this one on 10-20 shooting, far below his usual efficiency. He also had seven rebounds, five of them offensive.
Redick had 31 on 10-16 shooting while Brandon Ingram finished with 17. Frank Jackson had five.
Williamson’s season showed immense potential and a lot of erratic play. We hope a summer to rest and recuperate, and a fanatical training routine, will help him to have a more memorable second NBA season.
And it won’t hurt to have the stupid Gina Ford allegations and his family medical emergency behind him either. We rarely know what’s in anyone’s mind but being sued is no fun.
