If you’re like us, you may have heard of Deni Avdija but not know much about him. For those who don’t: he's a young Israeli who has had a rapid rise and now is seen as a potential Top Ten NBA Draft pick.
His back story is interesting too.
His father Zufer, was a Muslim from Serbia who ended up playing ball in Israel. Basketball was a lucky break for him as it allowed him to miss the wars that burned through the states of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. He married an Israeli basketball player and made it his home.
Now his son is being compared to Luka Dončić, the Slovenian sensation who has stunned the NBA over the last two seasons.
Like Dončić, his athleticism has been questioned. And like Dončić, it may not matter.
