Debbie Antonelli Predicts Great Things For Kara Lawson At Duke

Strong words!

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Milwaukee Practice
Mar 15, 2017; Milwaukee, WI, USA; CBS color commentator Debbie Antonelli is shown during practice for the first round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. She will be the first woman in that job at the NCAA tournament in 21 years.

Since she was announced as Duke’s new women’s basketball coach, we’ve been struck by how many people are deeply impressed with Kara Lawson.

Even so, even after hearing from Brad Stevens, Marcus Smart and learning that she was held in high regard by Duke football coach David Cutcliffe, who knew her from their time at Tennessee, and Coach K, we’re not sure anyone has been higher on Duke’s new coach than former State star and TV analyst Debbie Antonelli.

Speaking to Mark Packer and Wes Durham on the ACC Network, Antonelli said stuff that should make any Duke fan happy.

First, she said Duke was the #1 job in women’s basketball. Not one of the best - the best, ahead of Tennessee, Stanford, Notre Dame, Baylor, Texas and even almighty UConn.

She put that down to Duke’s powerful brand and presumably also its ACC affiliation and the education and facilities the university offers.

Then she said this: “I’m telling you, in the next five years, they’re going to be playing in the Final Four.”

The video is a little rocky but you’ll get most of it.
