For all the recent talk about how great the Bulls were in the 1990s - and they were - the Showtime era Lakers were probably more fun.
Those teams were built around Magic Johnson’s skill set and that meant they were going to run.
Here’s a classic example which came at the expense of the Sacramento Kings. First quarter score: Los Angeles 40, Sacramento 4.
There was nothing the Kings could do to even slow the onslaught. And needless to say, holding a team to four points in a quarter means you are playing great defense.
The Kings just couldn’t do anything. All four points were on free throws.
It would be fun to time travel and see what the Bulls could do if they caught LA, Boston and their Detroit Pistons at their respective peaks. You could toss in the Julius Erving-Moses Malone 76ers, too, because that’s an overlooked great team.
