After the sonic gut punches of the last few days, it’s understandable that it’s hard to find words to express yourself adequately. Quite honestly, we’ve just been sickened in so many ways that it’s been impossible to speak clearly or possibly just intelligently right now.
On Monday, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Joanne P. McCallie, David Cutcliffe and A.D. Kevin White all issued responses to the death of George Floyd and subsequent events.
In his comments, Coach K said this: “I have been trying to find eloquent words to explain my thoughts regarding the recent acts of injustice in our country, but I cannot be eloquent about this. I am too emotional. I am angry! I am frustrated! I am disgusted and frankly, I am scared. “
Eloquence is impossible right now and words are inadequate and may not help anyway. We’d just like to pass on their comments and hope that we can somehow reach the best parts of ourselves individually and collectively. And we hope that all of us can remember the power of forgiveness and reconciliation and perhaps the need to seek it rather than having it granted.
