An interesting quirk in ACC records has two Duke receivers tied for the ACC record for receptions with 283 each.
Coach David Cutcliffe tells the News & Observer that it might look staged but it wasn’t: “It’s interesting how it’s held together. And we also did not intend for them to tie. It looks measured, but it wasn’t.”
Jamison Crowder could have had the reception record by one but the last pass of his career, in the Sun Bowl vs. Arizona State, was intercepted and left him permanently tied with former teammate Conner Vernon.
Vernon finished at Duke earlier than did Jamison, who is now six years into his NFL career, but says he wouldn't have minded if his record had been broken rather than tied.
One of Cutcliffe’s biggest accomplishments at Duke is highlighted here. He completely overhauled - really resuscitated - the culture of a moribund program. No one thought Duke could be competitive again. Now it’s become something rather special.
