As far as we know, Duke isn’t after 6-6 Lucas Taylor, who is currently enrolled at Heritage High School in Wake Forest, but Steve Wojciechowski at Marquette and Elon’s Mike Schrage at Elon, both of whom worked for Coach K at Duke,
We don't know much about him but in this article from Zagsblog, intelligence and personality shines through. He sounds like a really neat kid.
He’s looking at Xavier, Davidson, Liberty, Providence, ODU and Wofford, in addition to Marquette and Elon.
Here’s what he says about his own game and recruitment:
“This is all new for me. I’m just trying to take everything in, talk to all the schools and see where I can see myself fitting in..I’m just looking for great people. That’s big for me...I’m also looking for a family environment. Those are some of the big factors...“Ive just been going out and running, shooting at the house, stretching a lot and eating better..I’m just trying to make sure my body isn’t taking in the wrong things...One thing about me that people don’t really know is that I can cook. That’s my hidden talent. I like to cook a lot.”
Steve Forbes is looking for some help. We have no idea if Taylor would fit in but from here he looks like a Wake Forest kind of kid.
One other thing to note: when he spoke to Elon, someone, presumably Schrage although it could be an assistant, told him that, with echoes of Lefty Driesell, they were trying to make Elon “the Gonzaga of the East.” That’s a pretty great goal and a worthy ambition. Unlike Lefty, they didn’t announce it publicly so if they get close to it then they can make a big deal out it. It’s much smarter.
