Former Tar Heel Ty Lawson Comes Out Swinging Against UNC’s Roy Williams

The last hug?

Well quarantine just got much less boring: former UNC guard Ty Lawson went public with a beef he has with Roy Williams.

He posted this on Instagram (reproduced here on Twitter) and you just don't see things go that intensely south, at least not publicly, that often.

Of course player-coach disputes happen. In his senior year, Duke moved Greg Newton to the bench and he went public with his complaints, calling the News & Observer’s Steve Politi and unloading, apparently unsolicited. He called back later and asked Politi not to use it but it was too late (Politi told us he felt a little bad about it but never sought it out).

There have been other issues. Not everyone has left 100 percent happy and in some cases, parents were also not happy.

We can’t recall anyone unloading quite like that though and that guy was a really good player for UNC. We remember one game in Cameron and Duke just didn't have anyone who could touch him so Ol’ Roy just turned him loose and the game turned just like that.

Here’s a thought for some Crazies or maybe some State kids. We didn't think it was a good idea to invite former UMBC guard KJ Maura to serve as a sort of human taunt because the reality was he’d just serve as a focal point for Virginia.

Inviting Lawson to a road game for UNC at Duke or NC State? Now that’s funny.
